The Artiste

Vidya, a dancer and teacher in Bharathanatyam, started her initial training in dance at the tender age of eight under Guru Smt. Rajalakshmi and continued further as a proud disciple of Guru Kalaimamani Smt. Charulatha Jayaraman, an expert nattuvanar. Vidya had an ardent passion for the art from her childhood and this fervid enthusiasm led her to pursue it as a career. After her Arangapravesam in 2002, her guru Smt. Charulatha Jayaraman trained her on the nuances of the art and nattuvangam. Her zeal to take her dreams forward led her to establish Pathanjali School of Dance in 2012. The singular motto of the school has been to teach Pandanallur style of dance in an authentic way, with an equal emphasis on theoretical basics.

She had the privilege of honing her skills by performing along with her Guru on various occasions - Madurai Meenakshi Temple, Satte 2002 Pragathimaidan at Delhi, Thunchan festival at Kerala, Madurai Chitirai festival, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy at Mussoorie, IGNFA Dehradun, Bhubaneshwar Dhauli Mahotsav, Maangani Festival Karaikkal, Iskcon temple Kolkata, Karnataka Udupi temple, Srilanka navarathri festival and Brahadeeshwara temple Tanjore to name a few.
